Auschwitz 2: Wildlife

Damien and Lewis confirmed what many say about Auschwitz: "Nothing lives. The silence is total. No birds or animals," Wirral Globe, Jan 17, 2008

The Polish word for dog is pies, and anyone who misses the noise of local dogs barking whilst walking around Auschwitz-Birkenau, is either hard-of-hearing, they didn't walk around very far, or they're telling porkie pies — which is cockney rhyming slang for lies (cheap pun intended).

Due to Birkenau beening covered in snow when I was there,
I soon spotted animal tracks all over the place

Animal tracks crossing the "death train" tracks,
even though I was told that even birds wouldn't fly over them

Whilst I was walking through the water treatment plant between
the section called Canada II and Krema III, I spotted three deer

Then I managed to snap my favourite photo of my four days at Auschwitz
